Well thanks Denise for starting. What a wonderful story. You looked great when I saw you at the finish and the port-o-johns!!! :)
I woke up extra early to eat my pre-race meal. I had been having trouble with eating and then trying to run but needed something. So when I got up at 4am it was a downpour. I knew I liked to run in the rain so when I saw weather reports of rain I was not too bothered. However, it was pouring and then by 5 or 5:30 it was lightning. So my thoughts were that I had been looking forward to this race and the 8am start and that may all get moved because of lightning. It did not. YEAH!
Jen, Kristen, and I gathered at my house for my lovely husband, Jim to wake up and take our picture. THen as we headed out the door the rain had stopped. I bought a pair of running pants at Goodwill so that if I needed them until the start I could leave them there. Instead, I got to keep them. Bonus!
We parked by the Y and walked up to the crowds. The excitment begins. We always look for the ladies fromn the group and can never seem to find anyone. We found a lot of you today!
So I had a goal to finish in 1 hour. So I wrote splits on my arm with permanent marker and was able to check in each mile to see where I was. The wind right after the start and the sky turning black was a sign of weather ahead. It started a light rain shortly after that and continued through to almost the end. Okay the rain picked uip and then slowed down and picked up. It was perfect to keep cooled off. It was a great run!
I felt really good through the whole race. I cannot remember things by miles. However, the more people cheering the better it was. The 5K portion of the course was packed with people. It was amazing to still see the big crowds when it was pouring rain. It is one thing to be out there running in it and an entire different thing to be standing in it cheering. I saw Wells out on the course--yeah a familiar face. The other thing that was amazing for me, who seems to have to pee all the time when running, was the number of port-o-johns on the course. I think in the first 3 miles there were over 5. I was more than happy to be able to run by them.
The finish shot was the best. I was able to see the finish banner and know it was home free from there. Okay it was time to empty any reserves I had. It felt great! Now it's off to Reed's Lake Run on Sat, Jun 27th---Are there others coming for that one???
Oh yes, I am glad that we could share with you and Wells outside the port-o-johns at the finish. HAHA! ANd by the way you do not need cleavage or body glide to tuck stuff in the bra. If you have a good fit sports bra it will all tuck in. It is a great iPod sleeve.
HAPPY RUNNING ladies! 2009 is going to be good.
